Dolores has a son with Down’s syndrome. She visited another young woman who had just given birth to a Down’s syndrome child and was having trouble accepting the fact. Dolores said to her, “We have three children, and I can honestly say the greatest blessing in our lives is little Johnny. Downs kids are capable of enormous affection but they don’t know hate at all. Johnny has been a huge blessing to our family.” The other young woman wept tears of joy and gave Dolores a big hug.
When a person has been through a valley and with God’s help has come out the other side, he or she is equipped to be a great blessing to others.
If God has brought me through some dark valley, am I sharing that experience with others who must walk through similar valleys?
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
