The church is like the base camp at about 6000 feet, on the way to Mt. Everest. There folks are trained and provisioned for mountain climbing. The base camp has a dietician, an expert in first aid, and trainer in climbing equipment. The only reason for the base camp is to equip people to climb the mountain. Likewise, the church’s job is not to recruit folks for the base camp but to train and provision mountain climbers.
Have I been climbing some mountain for Christ or just sitting in a base camp?
“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…” (Ephesians 4:11-12).
