Joan Laney recalls that while growing up in Korea as a daughter of missionaries, the Koreans had a special way of responding to requests for directions. The helpful Korean would drop what he was doing and accompany us most of the way to our destination. We found that even when the person didn’t know the way, they would try to figure it out by walking with us, and then turn around and retrace their steps.
Accompanying one another on the journey—isn’t that what Christian faith is all about? Christ accompanies us, even through death to resurrection. Then he commissions us to accompany others.
(Jesus said) “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6).
