Dana Rohrabacher of California formerly was a speechwriter for the late President Ronald Reagan. They were on-board Air Force 1, flying from Washington, DC to California. Dana was preparing a speech Reagan would deliver during an upcoming trip to Latin America. They received a report that one of their hosts in Latin America was preparing to make statements critical of President Reagan when he and Reagan together met the press. “Don’t worry,” Dana said to the President, “I will insert some things in your speech very critical of that guy. You will cut his legs right out from under him.” “Oh no, Dana,” said the President, “don’t do that. In my speech I want to praise him to the skies. Then if he has already said something critical of me, it will make him look like a terribly ungracious host. In fact, it will make him ashamed of himself.”

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:20-21)
