George Whitefield was Methodism’s premier preacher during its first 50 years. In the mid-18th century, he preached to thousands in Europe and America. Well before the era of public address systems, he addressed crowds of over 30,000.

Whitefield was educated at Oxford. Throughout his life, every time he returned to Oxford, he would visit the place where he first professed faith in Christ. He would kneel down and kiss the ground, so precious was that spot to him.

Can you identify the place or places of holy ground in your life?

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far has the Lord helped us.’” (I Samuel 7:12)
