A man was walking in the woods with his grandson when they came across a small turtle. The boy picked up his find, examined it and tried to pry open the shell with a stick. The turtle promptly pulled in its head.
“That will never get your anywhere,” the grandfather remarked. “Let me show you something.”
Grandfather put the turtle in his pocket and they returned to the house. Then Grandfather put the turtle on the warm hearth. A few minutes later the turtle stuck out its head and feet and started crawling toward the boy.
“You see,” said grandfather. “Never try to force a fellow into anything. Just warm him up with a little kindness and he’ll respond.”
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)
