MY ANCHOR HOLDS WITHIN THE VEIL
Following the death of her famous preacher-husband Peter Marshall, Catherine Marshall was devastated by grief. In the depths of her sadness, a single phrase kept hammering at her mind with surprising force—“My anchor holds within the veil.” She wondered where those words came from and what they meant. She consulted a concordance and found out that this phrase is not from the Bible. After many days of searching she finally found the source. It comes from a beloved hymn, “The Solid Rock.” She read the words of the entire hymn and then fell on her knees and thanked God for meeting her needs so graciously in that difficult hour. Here are the words of that particular verse in the hymn:
“When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.”
