INTEGRITY FOR SALE, CHEAP
The late great Baptist preacher Adrian Rogers told a story about a man named John who was an executive in a company. He was eligible for a major promotion. The board of directors had already talked it over and had decided that John was the right man to promote. Then one day in the company cafeteria, the owner of the company happened to be behind John in line. He saw John take a pat of butter worth about three cents and put it underneath a slice of bread so that the cashier wouldn’t see it. The CEO went back to the Board and told them that John was the wrong man to promote. Why? Because he lacked integrity. For just three cents he lost a promotion worth thousands of dollars.
One is reminded of Jesus’ words in Luke 16:10—“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
