A young man was trying to establish himself as a peach grower. He had invested considerable money and had worked hard in his peach orchard. It blossomed beautifully. But then an early frost came and killed all the blossoms. The young man did not go to church the next Sunday. In fact, he dropped out of church. His pastor visited him and inquired about his absence. The young man exclaimed with some bitterness, “I’m never coming back to church. Do you think I can worship a God who cares so little for me that he would let a frost kill all my peaches?”

The wise pastor looked at him for a few moments in silence and then said kindly, “God loves you better than he loves your preaches. He knows that while peaches do better without frosts, it is impossible to grow great people without adversity. His object is to grow people, not peaches.”
