In a Christmas pageant, the innkeeper of Bethlehem was played by a boy named Ralph. He had wanted to play the part of Joseph, but that part was given to someone else. Ralph decided to take his revenge by changing his lines and disturbing the flow of the play. One the day of the play, the auditorium was filled to capacity. Mary and Joseph knocked on the door of the inn. Ralph opened the door and said, “May I help you?” Mary and Joseph asked for a room. To the amazement of everyone, Ralph responded, “Come on in. We’ve got plenty of room for you.” Ralph’s parents and the play’s director were horrified. But the young man playing Joseph was equal to the occasion. He looked around and said, “Hey, this place is a dump! We would rather stay outside in the stable.”
