A mother was taking care of her young son who was dying of cancer. She taught him the 23rd Psalm, having him repeat “The Lord is my shepherd,” by counting those five words with his fingers, starting with his thumb. His ring finger represented the word “my.” His mother taught him that when he got to that word he should hold that finger in his fist, symbolizing the personal relationship with Jesus.

When the little boy died, he was found holding his ring finger. He died in the shepherd’s arms.

St. Paul assured all believers that nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39).
