John Brodie, former star quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, was once asked by a reporter why a million-dollar player like him should have to perform the humble task of holding the ball for the kicker on field goals and points after touchdowns. Brodie smiled and replied, “Well, if I didn’t hold the ball, it would fall over!”
Jesus revolutionized the world’s way of defining greatness. He said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matt. 20:25-28)
A Christian is never greater than when he or she stoops to serve.
