ONE DAY AT A TIME

The Canadian Archer Wallace made a visit to an elderly woman who was living in what was called a “home for the incurables.”  He found her in a rather bare room and suggested that they go out on the veranda for their visit.  “I have never been out on the veranda,” she said.  “I have a spinal condition which prevents me from being moved from this bed.”

This seemed a cruel condition to Mr. Wallace, and he asked her how long she had been there.  “Twenty-six years,” she answered.  He thought of all that had happened in his life over the past 26 years.  “Do you mean that you have never been out of this room in 26 years?”  “That’s right,” she said.

Wallace hardly knew how to respond.  She broke that silence by saying, “It only comes one day at a time, and God is so good.”

St. Paul once declared, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” (Phil. 4:11)
