AN EVEN BETTER GIFT
A monk once found a precious stone. Carefully he placed it in the bag with his other provisions. One day he met a traveler and sat down to have lunch with him. As the monk opened his bag to share his provisions, the traveler saw the jewel. He asked the monk to give it to him. Without hesitation, the monk did so. The traveler departed, overjoyed with the unexpected gift. A few days later the traveler came back to the monk and said, “I will gladly give the stone back to you if you will give me something even more precious. Give me that which enabled you to give the stone to me.”
Few assets are more precious than a heart so full of divine security and gratitude that giving is as natural as breathing.
