SELF-CONFIDENCE OF DIGNITARIES
Recently I was in a courtroom for the swearing-in of a new judge. The presiding officer welcomed everybody and then said, “I realize that there are many dignitaries present. I am afraid if I try to recognize all of you, I will miss someone. Therefore, let me put it this way: if you consider yourself a dignitary, consider yourself as having been welcomed.”
Parading our dignity in front of others is not becoming. Those who base their self-confidence on the approval of others are hollow people. Real self-confidence is not based on what other people think of you, but on who you and God know you are. If you know you are a child of the King of kings, then you are a dignitary anywhere anytime, even if you are the only one who knows it.
