THE LESSON OF THE FINCH
A bird called the chaff finch lives in Europe. About the size and color of a robin the finch has a beautiful song. People keep these birds in their homes to hear them sing.
But the chaff finch has a peculiar characteristic – it can forget how to sing. Then it has to be taken back into the woods to be re-taught by the wild birds. If it does not learn how to sing again, it becomes depressed and dies.
Many people are like chaff finches in this regard. In the rush and selfishness of our secular world, they become depressed and disoriented.
Fortunately, many of these people find their way back to church. There they are reminded of what God is like, why life is worth living, what the future holds, and what our proper relationship should be with God and other people. In short, they learn to sing the Lord’s song again. Could that be your need?
