A  HIGHLY AND HOLY CALLING

A first-grader asked his mother why his dad brought home a briefcase full of material each night.  She explained that he had so much work to do that he couldn’t get it all done at the office. The youngster pondered this soberly, then asked, “Well, why don’t they just put him in a slower group?”

The child may be right. Dad may need to be in a slower group if he doesn’t recognize that his children are the very highest claims on his time.  Lots of people look back across their lives and say, “I wish I had spent more time with my kids.”  Seldom have I heard someone say, “I wish I had spent more time at the office.”

To listen to a child talk about school or to watch her dance recital or to share in bedtime prayers is a high and holy calling.
