One day a father was leaving his house on the way to the shopping center. His 3-year-old daughter said, “Daddy, bring me something.” He asked, “Honey, what do you want?” She thought for a moment and replied, “Bring me something that will last forever.”

Even at the tender age of 3, she knew that many things are nice for a little while, but their appeal doesn’t last. She wanted something with staying power. Don’t we all?

Some cynics claim that nothing lasts forever. But people of faith have always contended that some things do: a cup of water given to a thirsty person, forgiveness extended to the guilty, a sympathetic ear, a loving touch, and a word spoken in faith about the One who created forever.
