MADE TO SOAR
There was once a merchant who kept an eagle caged in his store window to attract customers. One day a mountaineer came to that store and said, “I want to buy that eagle.” “I’m sorry,” said the manager. “I can’t let you have him. He is real good for business.” The mountaineer persisted, saying, “Name your price for that bird.” Figuring that a high price would discourage the buyer, the manager named an exorbitant figure. Immediately the mountaineer reached into his pocket, pulled out a wad of bills, and paid the price. Immediately the mountaineer took the noble bird to the nearest hill top and released it. The great bird soared out of sight. Later someone asked the mountaineer, “Why did you spend all that money to buy that bird and then turn him loose?” The mountaineer replied, “That bird was not meant to be caged; it was made to soar!”
So were you and I. “They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
