BARNYARD CHRISTIANS

The great theologian Soren Kierkegaard claimed that many Christians accept the faith intellectually but never take a leap of faith.  He compared them to a flock of geese enjoying a filthy barnyard.  “Then,” said Kierkegaard, “one day a strange goose made a brief visit to the barnyard.  He climbed up on a crate and began to preach.  He begged the other geese not to be content with the filthy barnyard.  He regaled them with the exploits of their forefathers on every corner of the globe.  He described to them the thrill of flying.  They listened, and were even a bit inspired.  They flapped their wings together in applause.  But then they turned and resumed their usual activities in the barnyard because the corn was waiting and the barnyard was secure.”

Christianity is more than giving intellectual assent to certain biblical propositions; it is daring to risk everything on the truth of Christ!
