NEVER TAKE ANYONE FOR GRANTED
The legendary Speaker of the House, Thomas P.”Tip” O’Neal, once made the mistake of taking a voter for granted. On Election Day, a neighbor named Mrs. O’Brien said to Tip after leaving the polls, “Tip, I voted for you today even though you didn’t ask.” The Speaker was surprised. “Mrs. O’Brien,” he said. “I’ve known you all my life. When I was a kid I took out your garbage, mowed your law, and shoveled snow for you. I didn’t think I had to ask for your vote.” “Tip,” she said in a motherly way, “It’s nice to be asked.” Everyone likes to feel appreciated.
