Eddie Smith tells the story about his two boys, one born to him and his wife and the other adopted. The boys were about the same age and in the same grade in school. While introducing themselves in the first grade, one of them said, “This is my brother. One of us is adopted, but I can’t remember which one.”
Adoption is a wonderful word. It means a child is not thrust into a home where he or she may be unwanted, rather, the child is specifically sought and chosen.
The Bible says that God desires to adopt each person as His own dear child. And God goes a step further. God insists that the child have a chance to decide the matter. Though God yearns to adopt each of us, He cannot do it unless each of us gives permission.
Have you been adopted yet? It’s the greatest status on earth.
