THE LIFE OF A HERO

Newsweek magazine referred to former President Ronald Reagan’s Alzheimer illness as “the long goodbye.” His handling of this terminal malady has shown us Reagan at his best. With courage and positive faith, he taught us about the illness and encouraged efforts to conquer it.

Some good things have come from this illness. The Reagan children, long alienated from their parents, have been reconciled. Formerly, the Reagans were not church attendees, but now they are in church almost every Sunday.

Mrs. Reagan explained that “the illness has brought things into focus and has reshuffled our priorities.”

Heroes are not daredevils who take crazy chances. Heroes are people of all types, presidents and paupers, who face whatever life brings with courage and faith.
